Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria Capital Region changes lives through mentorship. I am living proof of that impact.

My name is Alex Farah. I’m a former mentee with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria Capital Region. When I was eight years old, I was matched with my mentor, Gary. Being matched with a trusted mentor provided me with guidance, encouragement, and stability during key developmental years.

That relationship helped shape my confidence, decision-making, and long-term goals – and its influence continues to guide me today.

When I met Gary for the first time, I remember being really excited. Gary grew up really similarly to me, and seeing someone like Gary be successful in his career and social life showed me that I can as well.

It shaped my personality as a young man, and it’s influenced where I’m at today.

I think there were many paths that I could have gone down, and some paths that I’ve seen my peers go down. I give a lot of credit to Gary for helping me to learn about my interests and giving me someone to look up to.
