RESPONSIBILITIES

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria is a non-profit agency providing mentoring programs for children and youth across Greater Victoria. We are currently looking for a highly organized, efficient, caring, and committed individual who enjoys working with volunteers and providing additional support to children in an elementary school setting. This position is ideal for someone looking to grow their career while parenting and who needs a work schedule which aligns with the school year.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will support volunteer intake and coordinate School Based Programs within multiple school settings in Sooke and across the West Shore. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaising with multiple schools, coordinating program delivery and student referrals
  • Supporting, training and mentoring program volunteers
  • Completing required administration to ensure safety of program participants and compliance with national standards
  • Assisting children, families and schools through referral, in-take and match-monitoring processes and facilitating access to other resources
  • Assisting in volunteer recruitment, screening, interviews, recognition, and retention
  • Leading program development, promotion and evaluation
  • Engaging as a strong member of the team – modeling enthusiasm, flexibility, a belief in the power of mentoring, etc.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Min 2 years post-secondary education in social work, child and youth care, education and/or human services. Completion of a 4 year post-secondary degree considered an asset
  • Experience working with children, families and volunteers
  • Experience working with volunteers and leading programs for children considered an asset
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and problem solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and computer skills
  • Police criminal record check including vulnerable sectors check will be required of successful applicant
  • Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license

 

Terms of Employment:

  • Hours: 10 hours per week (Monday to Friday during school hours with occasional after-school interviews/training sessions). Renewable 10-month contract from September to June. 40 hours per month maximum but hours can vary from 5 to 15 hours each week depending on time of year and work-plan.
  • Wage: $22.00 per hour
  • Contract Dates: September 5, 2023 to June 30, 2024
