BS2S PROGRAM

Big Steps 2 Success (BS2S) is a one-on-one mentoring program for children and youth, ages 7 to 14, who are living in government care or have a kinship agreement.

Young people are mentored by trained volunteers who can help them to navigate challenges and empower them to realize their full potential.

Mentors and mentees visit for 2-4 hours once per week, either at school or in the community, sharing their interests with free/low-cost activities. There is a minimum commitment of one year for both mentor and mentee.

MENTORING MATTERS

Research shows that having a caring relationship with a trusted adult can have a big impact on a child’s emotional wellbeing, self-worth and resiliency.

Mentored young people have the support, tools and confidence for long-term stability and success.

MENTOR SCREENING & TRAINING

Our volunteer mentors are adults who want to make a difference for youth in our community.

BS2S mentors complete thorough screening and undergo training focused on building supportive developmental relationships with young people.

They also receive additional training to understand the specific experiences and needs of youth in care.

VOLUNTEER AS A MENTOR

When we match a young person with a volunteer mentor, we start something incredible – a life-changing relationship where mentors support, challenge and empower our youth to reach their full potential. Contact us or visit our Volunteer Page to learn more about making a BIG difference as a mentor!
