RESPONSIBILITIES

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria is a non-profit agency providing mentoring programs for children and youth. We are currently looking for a highly organized, efficient, caring, and committed individual for the position of Mentoring Coordinator in Sooke.

 

The successful candidate will implement the Teen Mentoring Program in partnership with identified schools. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaising with schools, coordinating program delivery and student referral
  • Supporting, training and mentoring youth volunteers
  • Completing required administration to ensure safety and compliance with national standards
  • Assisting in volunteer recruitment, screening, interviews, recognition, and retention
  • Leading program development, promotion and evaluation

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Min 2 years post-secondary education in social/human services, education, etc. Completion of a 4 year post-secondary degree in a related field considered an asset
  • Experience living and/or working in Sooke. Current knowledge of local organizations, businesses and service groups is considered an asset
  • Experience working with children, families and volunteers
  • Experience working in and leading youth programs considered an asset
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and problem solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and computer skills
  • Available to meet with students and community partners during school hours
  • Police record check including vulnerable sectors check will be required of successful applicant

 

Terms of Employment:

  • Hours: 10-15 hours per week (max. 40 hours/month)
  • Salary: $18.50 per hour
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • End Date: June 30, 2019
