Happy BC Day!

Today, we celebrate the province we call home – with our sparkling seas and majestic trees, it truly is Beautiful BC! We want to share our gratitude for this wonderful place where we work, play and live.

OUR IMPACT ON BC COMMUNITIES

The amazing impact of our local mentoring team and volunteers on British Columbia’s youngest citizens is profound. Over the past year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria Capital Region has supported 181 local children and youth through our core Community Mentoring Program. 72% of these young people have struggled with mental health challenges, and another 62 per cent have experienced learning or literacy challenges.

Once supported through our Community Mentoring Program, families and caregivers reported significant benefits to their child: 64% saw their child’s world expanded through mentoring, 86% felt that their child was more motivated to learn or try new things, and 93% felt that their child’s mentor challenged them to grow and be more accountable.

As one of a dozen Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the province, we would also like to recognize the hard work of our teams across the province in supporting British Columbia’s most vulnerable young people.

OFFICE CLOSED AUG. 1

Our office and collection station at 230 Bay St. will be closed on Monday, August 1 so our staff and volunteers can enjoy the long weekend with their loved ones.

We hope you can take some time over the long weekend to be in nature and reflect on those places and people that make BC so special to you.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria Capital Region recognizes and respects the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Esquimalt and Songhees), Pacheedaht, Scia’new, T’Sou-ke and W̱SÁNEĆ (Malahat, Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum) people, whose traditional territories we live, work and play upon each day.
